Gardner Cowles (1903-1985)
Publisher, was born at Algona, Iowa and was educated at Philips Exeter Academy and Harvard University. His career in journalism began with work on the Des Moines Register, on which he advanced from city editor to publisher. As president of Cowles Magazines, Inc. he founded several successful publications, best-known of which is Look magazine.
