Slosson, E. E. - 1889

AT THE UNIVERSITY.
E. E. Slosson got back from Texas yesterday, to resume work.

E. S. Meade returned this morning.

W. E. Curry, the former clerk, now wears the Phi Gam colors.

Prof. Templin will talk to the Science club at its first meeting.

The Senior Pharmacy class will be very small this year.

The Courier and Review will both be out to-morrow.  Also a new paper to be called the University Kansan.

It is proposed to change all the first hour Freshman studies to the fourth hour.

Prof. McDonald has posted a notice stating that he will give private lessons in music to prepare students to enter the department as regular students.

More then 900 visitors registered at the guides room during the summer vacation.

Marion county sends six new students this year.

Almost a hundred new students assembled in the chapel yesterday morning.  This is the greatest number of new students ever present on the first day.

Borkiwitz, Rabbi - 1889

CITY NEWS.
One of the largest weddings of the season took place last Wednesday evening {04-Sept-1889} at I. O. O. F. Hall.  Mr. David Passon and Miss Rachael Cohn being united in hold bonds of matrimony, Rabbi Borkiwitz of Kansas City, officiating.  Miss Cohn is one of our popular society ladies and the daughter of our fellow townsman J. Cohn.

The groom, Mr. Passon, is well-known, being one of our leading business men and a prominent member of the Masonic order of this city.  After the ceremony, the party partook of an elegant wedding supper, while Buch’s orchestra discoursed fine strains from Mendelson and Strauss.  The RECORD wishes the young couple happiness and God speed.

Mandell, C. L. - 1889

CITY NEWS.
C. L. Mandell in the seventy-sixth year of his age, died last Tuesday of paralysis.  Mr. Mandell came to Kansas in 1855, settling in Lawrence and has resided here ever since.  He had been engaged in many enterprises, and in all his associations with his fellow-men, he was always upright and honorable.  He leaves an aged wife and many friends to mourn his loss.  The funeral took place to-day and the remains were interred in Oak Hill cemetery.

Dow, Lorenzo - 1889

CITY NEWS.
In yesterday morning’s Journal appeared a notice that Prof. Hershey would lecture at the Presbyterian church on Sunday, every Sept. 17.  Heretofore, Lorenzo Dow was the only man who undertook to make appointments a year ahead, but this appointment seems to be made for an indefinite number of years.  Meantime, Prof. Hershey, who is endorsed as a very capable lecturer will speak at the place indicated, on next Tuesday evening.
