Reese, Wendell L. (SSGT) - 2017

Wendell L. Reese, age 93, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday March 29, 2017. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Dr. Kendall and Mrs. Clara Paul-Rees. Shortly after his birth, Wendell's family relocated to Dowling, Michigan where he grew up with his sister and four brothers. He graduated at the age of 16 from Hastings High School.

Wendell worked for the Eaton Corporation beginning in June 1941 until his retirement in April 1983. While employed there, he also served for 30 years as the Treasurer of the then Eaton Credit Union.

A member of the "Greatest Generation", Wendell served proudly during World War II in the Army Air Corps, flying missions over Europe while based in England.

On March 8, 1944 at the Courthouse in Marshall, Michigan, Wendell L. Reese married Katherine C. Pesenecker. They recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Wendell always took great pride in his family, his work and his home. Tending to his summer gardens and lighting up his house with holiday displays brought him great joy.

Surviving are his wife Katherine; his children Cynthia, Andrew and Douglas; grandchildren Jason, Theodore, Elizabeth and Robert; five great granddaughters and one great-great grandson.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Gordon, Neale and Haydn and his sister Martha Allen.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Wendell's life will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, June 9, 2017 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
