Merrell, Carrie - 1898

A New Society Formed
A number of young ladies of Jeannette have founded a society, for the purpose of exploring nature, the society is known as the K. C. P.'s and every Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, they leave town in an animated body for the woods and fields.

The society pin adopted by the young ladies is star shaped, with the letters “F. P. C.” encrusted upon it in green and gold.  When the summer has gone, and bleak winds take the place of sunshine, it is the intention of this society to spend their Thursday afternoons in their cozy homes trying to out rival nature and her many beauties on fancy work and art squares.  The members are: Misses Lilly Blaze, Jennie Jones, Minnie Carle, Carrie Merrell, Belle Doty, Elizabeth and Gertrude Pearsall and Dorothy Hill.

~ Pennsylvania County Marriages 1885-1950, License Docket #8483, Page 122

Kraft, Augusta [Gehm] - 1898

Harry Kraft, the well-known restaurant keeper of Clay avenue, has left the house and his whereabouts are unknown.  His wife entered proceedings for a divorce on Wednesday.

Kraft remodeled his house last winter at a great expense and filed papers asking for a license.  At the license court he was turned down.  Some days ago his personal property fell into the hands of the sheriff.  Shortly afterwards he left his wife and nothing has been heard of {paper illegible}.  Mrs. Kraft now applies for a separation.

The petitioner alleges that her husband was offered such indignities within the past year and half, that her life has been burdensome, and she has been forced to withdraw from her house and family.  She further charges him with striking her.

Mr. Harry Kraft and Augusta Kraft were married on November 27, 1896 {?}. {paper illegible} and McGeary are attorneys for the petitioner.
