Casserly, Eugene - 1868

Eugene Casserly, elected last week, as Senator from California, is a native of New York city, and is about forty-five years of age.  He was a prominent Democratic politician in New York until 1853, when he emigrated to California and settled in San Francisco.  Here he was first an editor, and afterwards a lawyer, having been admitted to the New York bar, before he left that city.  Mr. Casserly is a Democrat, and will succeed Senator Conness, Republican, on March 4th, 1869.
