Grant, Hugh - 1888

Grant, Hugh, Roadsman
March 3, 1888, 7th District, Laurel Hill Colliery, Allegheny County.
He was standing by a full car, to which a mule was attached, jesting with the driver.  The mule suddenly started forward and crushed his head between the top of the car and the roof.  Age 26.  Single.

Lerul, James, Mule Driver
February 18, 1888, 7th District, Horner & Roberts No. 4 Colliery, Allegheny County.
He was driving his mule at a high rate of speed when the mule was forced against the side of the entry by the momentum of the cars and fell back against the man with such force to cause internal injuries.  He died of these injuries four days later.  Age 23.  Married.

McAllister, Alexander - 1888

McAllister, Alex, Mule Driver
February 17, 1888, 7th District, Bellwood Colliery, Allegheny County.
It appears that the deceased jumped from his trip when in motion in order to adjust the brake to bring the cars to a stand when part of his clothing became entangled in the end of one of the cars and he was dragged to a narrow place where his head was crushed between his car and the side of entry.  Age 24.  Single.
