McPherson, John Bayard "J. B." - 1858

Death of John B. McPherson, Esq.,--It becomes our painful duty to announce the death, early this morning of our respected fellow-citizen, John B. McPherson, Esq., Cashier of the Bank of Gettysburg, a situation he has retained ever since the establishment of that institution in 1812--more than forty years. He was in his 69th year.

His health has been feeble for a considerable time, and he sank gradually and peacefully to his rest, leaving a reputation behind him, which is a pleasant inheritance to his children. Of stern, unbending integrity, and of exemplary moral character, warm in his friendships, closely attentive and correct in all his business transactions, few men have left us who possessed more of the confidence of the community than did the deceased. We have been warm and intimate friends for years, and it becomes us not to let his departure pass without this our slight tribute to his worth.--
