Indisposed.--
We regret to learn of the continued indisposition of our old friend Levi Forney. Though well past four score years, Mr. Forney has until lately been able to visit his friends occasionally and to attend to business. In this latter respect he was and is as methodical as a clock, and never was known to fail to discharge an obligation. We hope that Mr. Forney may soon be recovered so as to gladden his friends by a sight of his countenance.

Kauffman, Laura Louise [Enck] - 1881
She Was Surprised.--
A surprise party that surprises is a novelty, but such an [sic] one we have to record. Miss Laura Enck’s nineteenth birthday occurred on Thursday of last week, and a committee of friends determined to celebrate the event in a fitting manner.
Accordingly, arrangements were made and a large circle of acquaintances invited, under the rose. In the evening the guests, with a well stored commissary, assembled. Miss Enck was indeed surprised, and was moved by the appropriate testimonial of regard. The evening was devoted to the God of Pleasure, and right royally did his majesty smile upon his votaries. Games and social confab, with excellent refreshments thrown in “for chinking”. Make up the sum total of an enjoyable evening.
