Severe Sentence.
A young man named Edward Boling, was lately tried for Bigamy, in Rockingham county, North Carolina, and found guilty. He was sentenced to be branded with the letter B on the left cheek, (which was done in presence of the Court) to be imprisoned three years, and to receive thirty lashes at three sevetal <sic> times before the expiration of his term of imprisonment. The case, it is true, was an aggravated one; but the punishment looks rather barberous <sic> for this enlightened age and country.~ Western Citizen, 07 Dec 1841, Page 2, Column 4
