Black, Ezekiel Pickens - 1879

Ezekiel Black, an old Butler Co. citizen, died at his home in Ft. Deposit Sunday, aged 49, His brother, A. M. Black died two weeks ago. He was survived by his brother Frank Black of Greenville.

Black, Andrew Martin - 1879

Andrew M. Black, aged citizen, died Saturday.  He was the oldest native born citizen of Butler Co., and one of the best known men in the county. He had been Sheriff and Tax Collector and was a Mason and Methodist.  (Co. D., 61st Alabama Infantry, CSA)

Betton, Frances A. - 1884

Mrs. S.D. Betton,(Frances A), daughter of Nathan and Ann Betton of Queen Ann Co,. MD, was born 11/9/1804 and died in Cuthbert, Co. Ga. 7/4/1884, aged 79 years 8 months 15 days. Her father was a midshipman on the Brandywine, the vessel that carried Gen. Lafayette back to France. She married on 6/30/1826 Col. Sol. D. Betton and was a wife for 58 years 14 days. They moved to Milledgeville, Ga. 5/8/1817 where Col. Betton was postmaster for 40 years. They moved to Butler Co. 9/19/1857 and returned to Ga. on 11/1/1883 to be with their children and grandchildren. She was survived by her husband.

Betton, Sol D. (Col.) - 1891

Col. S. D. Betton was in town last week, aged 85 years.  He was born in Virginia on 8/4/1806 and in 1812 moved to Jones Co., Ga.  He settled in Greenville in 1857.  His wife died after 57 years of married life.  The Colonel lived in Cuthbert, Ga. where he moved in 1883.

Alfred Bethea, son of the late Hon. T. B. Bethea of Montgomery, died at his residence in Verbena on the 6th.  His wife is the daughter of the late Atty. Gen. M. A. Baldwin.
