Mr. and Mrs. Harry D. Sitman of South Third street left Wednesday at noon for Devan, Pa., been called there on account of the serious illness of our townsman’s father, Mr. William Sitman, Sr., who is confined to a hospital in that section.  The aged gentleman is almost ninety years old and for some time past has been making his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Justus Douglass at Devan.  His illness is such as to cause his friends much apprehension.

Those Who Have Past From Time To Eternal Rest

William Sitman Sr.

William Sitman, Sr., a former resident of Bellwood, died Friday night in the Bryn Mawr hospital, death being attributed to infirmities of age.  Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. Sitman went to Devon, Pa., where they made their home with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Douglass.

He was born September 30, 1853, and spent his earlier years in Clearfield county, where he was engaged in lumbering in the days when the timbers were floated in rafts to the eastern market.  He participated in clearing he virgin timber in the Black Moshannon section when it was a vast forest inhabited by bear and other wild animals.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma E. Sitman, at the Douglass home at Devon, and three sons, Alfred R. Sitman of Williamsport, Harry D. Sitman of Bellwood and William Sitman, Jr., of mars, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. Douglass of Devon, and eight grandchildren.

The body was brought to Bellwood and funeral services were held from the Fuoss funeral home on Main street Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. H. Thaddeus Covert of the Methodist church, with interment in Logan Valley cemetery.

Dr. William Sitman, of Mars, Pa., was called the beginning of the week to attend the funeral of his father, William Sitman, Sr., services being held last Monday from the Fuoss funeral home on main street.  He was accompanied by Mrs. Sitman and while here met many of their old time friends.  A number of years ago Dr. Sitman was engaged in the drug business in the borough.
