Education: high school and normal college, in Minnesota, National Academy of Design and Art Students League (Elliot silver medal, 1876), and under Walter Shirlaw, C. Y. Turner and J. G. Brown, New York.

Married: New Brighton, S. I., New York, July 8, 1906, Mary Ellicott Junius.

Began drawing while at school; went to New York, 1875.  Has painted portraits of General F. D. Grant, General A. S. Webb, General C. S. Roe, Commodore F. G. Bourne, Commodore W. S. Alley, General Stewart L. Woodford, General James Grant Wilson, and many others.
