Childbed: Historically, the period of parturition during which women remained in bed for labor, delivery and the traditional 6 weeks' recovery time after childbirth.
Childbed Fever: Puerperal sepsis.
Puerperal Fever (Sepsis): Septicema following childbirth.
Sepsis: A systemic inflammatory response to infection, in which there is fever or hypothermia, tachycardia, tachypnea, and evidence of inadequate blood flow to internal organs.  The syndrome is a common cause of death in critically ill patients.
