Henry, John C. - 1874

John C. Henry, chief clerk in the Revenue office at Lynchburg, has absconded with a large amount of money.  Twenty thousand dollars was found secreted in a drawer, which he failed to take with him, and it is estimated that he carried off about $100,000.  He had the implicit confidence of the Collector and did all his banking business, and hence the opportunity to default.
