Kelly, James - 1890

Kelly, James, Miner
May 21, 1890, 2nd District, Alexandria Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Kelly was an Irish miner,  He had been mining coal for many years.  He was fatally injured by a fall of coal.  He lived one week after the accident, and he condemned himself for getting under the loose coal.  He said that he did not know why he got under the coal, and that he would have warned any one else of the danger.  Age 35.  Single.

Myditch, Frank - 1890

Myditch, Frank, Miner
April 25, 1890, 2nd District, Denmark Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Myditch was a German miner and he had only been mining coal a short time.  He was so seriously injured by a fall of “horseback” that he died in four hours.  Age 27.  Single.

Masark, Thomas -1890

April 25, 1890, 2nd District, Penn Gas No. 4 Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Masark was an Italian miner.  He was instantly killed by a fall of slate.  An inquest was held on his body and a verdict of accidental death rendered.  Age 33.  Single.

Parkins, Mark - 1890

Parkins, Mark, Miner
February 14, 1890, 2nd District, Smithton No. 2 Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Parkins was an English miner and had spent most of his days in the mines.  He was instantly killed by a fall of slate.  He had a large quantity of slate posted up; it was strong limestone slate and considered safe.  His brother had been with him half an hour before the accident helping him to fire a shot.  He stated that the place was safe at the time.  On investigation I discovered that he had got into free slate and on his sounding it, the slate fell with the above results.  Age 43.  Married.  Four orphans.

Tomik, John - 1890

January 23, 1890, 2nd District, Westmoreland Shaft Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Tomik was a Bohemian miner.  He was so severely injured by a fall of slate that he died three days afterwards.  Age 31.  Married.

Davidson, John - 1890

Davidson, John, Miner
January 25, 1890, 2nd District, Larimer No. 3 Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Davidson was an Irish miner.  He had been mining coal for many years.  At the time of the accident he was sitting down “bearing-in”, when a fall of body of coal fell on him, so severely that he died in a few hours.  Age 54.  Single.
