Parkins, Mark, Miner
February 14, 1890, 2nd District, Smithton No. 2 Colliery, Westmoreland County.
Parkins was an English miner and had spent most of his days in the mines. He was instantly killed by a fall of slate. He had a large quantity of slate posted up; it was strong limestone slate and considered safe. His brother had been with him half an hour before the accident helping him to fire a shot. He stated that the place was safe at the time. On investigation I discovered that he had got into free slate and on his sounding it, the slate fell with the above results. Age 43. Married. Four orphans.
