Born in Bellbrook, Greene County, Ohio, May 14, 1832. A.B. [Bachelor of Arts], Miami University, 1857; M.A. [Master of Arts], Miami University, 1862. Captain, major and lieutenant-colonel, Seventy-fourth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, U. S Army,. 1861-1863. County Superintendent, public schools, Minnesota, 1872-1877. Publisher, Journal, Worthington, Minnesota, 1878-1885. President Philamath College, 1885-1886. Principal La Creole Academy, Dallas, Oregon, 1887-1892. President, Central Oregon State Normal School, 1892-1896. Retired. Died February 3, 1919. Buried in cemetery at Oakland, California.
