Washington, Jan. 1 – General Thomas W. Sherman is to be put in command of the Eastern District to succeed Meade.
Gen. Canby has called a Convention in North Carolina, to meet at Raleigh on the 14th.
Paris, Jan. 1 – Adelina Patti is to be married to Marquis De Coux, an officer of the Imperial Household.
New York, Jan. 1 – Col. Roberts has resigned the Presidency of the Fenian Brotherhood. The Senate previously elected Gen. John O'Neil Vice president in place of Joseph Gibbons, thus placing O'Neil at the head of the Brotherhood. Dispatches endorsing O'Neil were received in all parts of the country. Addresses have been issued disclosing in name to the Fenian Brotherhood all those who had connection with the blowing up of the Clerkenwell Prison.
