Skipsey, Joseph - 1889

Personal Gossip
Joseph Skipsey, the new custodian of Shakespeare’s birthplace, was a miner before he became a poet, beginning as a trapper boy at the age of 7.  That was just fifty years ago.  He learned to read on Sundays, not at Sunday school, but at home in his father’s garret.
