First professional engagement with Miss Lotta, Chicago, 1870; fall of same year joined Augustin Daly's 5th Avenue Theatre, New York; became member of A. M. Palmer's Union Square Theatre, spring of 1872; left Union Square Theatre Company to star in "Conscience", 1876; was playing in Brooklyn Theatre when it caught fire, Dec. 5, 1876 and was in Southern Hotel, St. Louis, when it burned, 1877. By coolness saving own life as well as that of brother; traveled with own company until 1904; best remembered for performance in "Frou, Frou", "Called Back", "The Double Marriage", "Pauvrette", Ogarita in "The Sea of Ice", and the blind girl in "The Two Orphans". Played the role of Louise more than 4,000 times.
